An Ancient Temple Exclusive Cultural Event

Under the flickering glow of candlelight, be transported to ancient times watching the swirling colours and movement of traditional Cambodian dancers, as you dine at the base of a 10th century Angkor temple.

The revered UNESCO World Heritage-listed temples of Angkor in Cambodia are known as the ‘City of Temples’ in Khmer language. There are numerous temples in the Siem Reap province of Cambodia – the most well-known being Angkor Wat.

Many day visitors from all over the world come to this ancient and sacred site, the former capital of the Khmer empire in the early 12th century. Few, however, will have the opportunity to dine after-hours beneath a blanket of stars and shimmering moonlight beside one of temples dotted throughout Angkor.

This exclusive Scenic Enrich experience for guests travelling on all Scenic Mekong cruises and tours is the ‘Mekong Temple Dinner’, hosted at Prasat Kravan – a small 10th century temple in Angkor. One of the highlights of the Scenic itineraries, the Scenic Enrich event is organised with meticulous care to create a magical evening for guests that they will likely never forget.

“This was a truly spectacular night at Kravan Temple in Siem Reap – only for guests of Scenic. Memory of a lifetime.”

Starting at 1pm in the afternoon, our local teams arrive to begin setting up this extravagant gala dinner. The utmost care is taken by local operators who have a fond connection and respect for the religious significance of Angkor’s ancient sites. Guests begin to arrive at 7pm for cocktails and canapes with a backdrop of the illuminated Prasat Kravan sandstone temple ruins.

The setting is magnificent and awe-inspiring, as you experience a lavish handcrafted three course meal of traditional Khmer cuisine, all included beverages and local delights. The highlight of the evening is the stunning entertainment, which features traditional Apsara dancers and a stage show with the ‘King of Angkor’ in procession and attendance, watching over ‘his’ dancers. After dinner, enjoy the opportunity to take photographs of the performers on stage, in their traditional dress.

It’s true that Angkor can be explored in a number of ways – but to have the opportunity to experience the warmth and resilience of Cambodians and the culture of South East Asia in this unsurpassed, once-in-a-lifetime event - is a memory to treasure forever. With only up to 68 guests reveling in the majesty of this moment, our past guests tell us that this is often the highlight of their Scenic Asia river cruise .... so you’ll just have to come and experience the wonder for yourself.

This Mekong Temples dinner is an example of how with Scenic, it’s more than just a river cruise – it’s captivating, after-hours visits to historic sites guided by cultural experts.

“Experienced the most amazing sights and created lots of memories and friends. Absolute perfection.”
